Four years ago this month, we worked with 180 women and non-binary filmmakers in LA to make 6 films in just one weekend. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the process.
In February 2020, Moonshot Initiative brought its signature film challenge (Women's Weekend Film Challenge) to Los Angeles for the first time.
Through this film challenge, we worked with 180 professional filmmakers to produce 6 short films. These filmmakers were strangers at the beginning, but they became trusted collaborators after an intensive weekend of writing, shooting, and editing an entire film. Moonshot Initiative provided the cinema-quality gear courtesy of our sponsors, production insurance, location permits, and stipends to submit to film festivals.
The films premiered to an audience of 400 at ArcLight Hollywood. Since then, the films have gone on screen at film festivals, and the participants continue to work with the contacts they made on our sets.
Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the process of making a short film in just one weekend with a crew of total strangers!
This behind-the-scenes video was shot and edited by Eden Martinez, with sound by Ash Knowlton. It was produced by Tracy Sayre, Katrina Medoff, Eden Martinez, Ash Knowlton and Cory Choy.
