How to Pitch Your Project

Nov 1, 2023 - Nov 22, 2023

  • 22 Days
  • 16 Steps

About

Develop your pitching skills so that when an opportunity arises to share your project with decision-makers, you’re ready for it! As a creative, you’ve poured your time and talents into your project. But to get your concept to the next stage, you’ll need to be able to speak about it in a way that gets execs, representatives, and writing development labs as excited about your idea as you are. Course participants will attend three virtual classes (Nov. 6, 16, and 20, 2023, 5-6:30 p.m. Pacific / 8-9:30 p.m. Eastern), during which Moonshot Initiative co-founders Katrina and Tracy will give feedback on participants’ verbal pitches. You’ll also have the opportunity to hear examples of polished pitches from our past Pilot Accelerator fellows — pitches that prompted execs at companies like HBO, Netflix, Hulu and Showtime to request to read their full scripts and to have follow-up meetings. Plus, we’ll pair you up with your classmates so that you can practice and get comfortable pitching outside of the virtual classroom. Throughout the course, we’ll provide instructions for crafting a verbal pitch and an elevator pitch; tips for being an engaging speaker; do’s and don’ts for pitching; a guide for researching the companies and execs you’re pitching to; how to talk about yourself and your work; tips for general meetings; bonus materials; and more. If you have a script or a ready-to-pitch idea for a feature or TV pilot, this course is for you!

I would highly recommend this course to aspiring TV & film writers/creatives. The daily prompts helped me push past feelings of stuckness and writer’s block, and the meetups helped offer diverse perspectives and experiential learning of fellow cohort members. One of the best investments in my creative career. I have a framework now for my pilot, which gave me the direction I needed to move forward with bringing my idea one step closer to reality.
